The Epic Saga of Bophades and the Kraken Week Saga

**Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for the Kraken Week adventure and the Saga of Bophades.**

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I narrated "Act 3" of the Kraken Week adventure, and it was a huge success!

I used this as a foundation because I’m running a Greek mythology-themed campaign called “The Saga of Bophades,” albeit with significant anachronisms. Yes, 'that' Bophades. What was initially meant to be a humorous one-shot evolved into something much deeper. Today, Bophades met his demise at the hands of Cerberus (after his notorious bite on the Crown Jewels) and was punished to become the guardian of the underworld, replacing the epic monster that the original player characters had to defeat. However, after 20 years, he orchestrated a coup in the underworld (spoilers for upcoming sessions) and has essentially become the lord of all evil for this new generation of heroes.

In this adventure, I replaced the episode of Andromeda and Perseus. In this world, the goddess of salt mothers is Cassiopeia, the artillery is commanded by the last Trojan, and Princess Luna has been replaced by Andromeda. Additionally, Aurum will reveal himself to be Sinbah (a little inside joke by inserting a random character from another lore). Bophades once had an assistant from Judea named Sam, who, before the battle with Cerberus, fell into the Styx just like him and Achilles, and had to be pulled out by his hair. He is destined to become Samson.

Nobody heared about Bophades Nuts...

Here are my two cents on the adventure:

1. The mechanic that required the entire group to be present to earn Boons became a struggle. Their plan was essentially to send one party member to each location. I had to break immersion countless times to explain that each task was more difficult than it appeared. In the end, I conceived the task of evacuating citizens because they decided to intimidate the townspeople by simulating a plague using a druid who could polymorph into fey creatures. I let him and one other character handle this task overnight, and they paid the price for their lack of a long rest.

2. The SIEGE mechanic was fantastic. I’m already planning the next stage, which will be the Battle of Thermopylae (I did mention we’re anachronistic). Leonidas is the son of one of the characters from the original adventure, and they’ll form their own army with the resources and treasures gathered from Act IV. I revealed that Bophades not only connected Andromeda to the Kraken but also enlisted discontented heroes from Hellenic past to bolster his army. Theseus and Alcides (essentially the mortal embodiment of Hercules) are already in league with the demigod.

Lastly, here’s the theme song for Andromeda. Part of it is in Portuguese, which is my native language.

Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling saga!
